HAPPY 50TH BIRTHDAY TO MY FATHER!

My dad turned 50 years old yesterday!
I feel blessed to just have been able to be there to celebrate with him. I know it is a blessing to be able to celebrate 50 years because we are not promised tomorrow.
I am thankful for how he has lead his family for the last 25+ years. Almost half of his life!

I am going to give a quick run down of our FUN FAMILY weekend of 50 surprises in 50 hours for a 50th birthday. I will post the actual documents in another post in case anyone wants to replicate for a special birthday! Mom spent many hours coordinating all of this so HUGE shout out to her!

Friday:
Dad was told to pack his bags for weekend get away starting at 4 pm

The "get away" was a hotel suite close to Opry Mills (I think dad thought he was going farther...ha)

Surprises on Friday included my family of 4 and each of us bringing some of his favorites such as Peanut M&Ms, Whoppers, Hot Tamales, Birthday cookies, etc

We made several 50 item lists such as 50 memories with dad, 50 reasons why we love dad, 50 words to describe dad, 50 jokes/quotes about turning 50, and a 50th birthday poem....

His BIG 50th birthday gift was a Keurig machine with Dunkin Kcups and a 50th birthday coffee mug with 3 handles stating "get a grip"

We had dinner at a near by restaurant and enjoyed coffee and MUDDYS cupcakes for dessert.

Saturday:
Hot breakfast at hotel

Kelly Minter's Nehemiah Bible Study

For the past few weeks I have been studying through the book of Nehemiah using Kelly Minter's group study.
Nehemiah: A heart that can break

A few women have been meeting on Wed nights at 8 pm to discuss the Bible, life in general, and  share prayers/confessions/praises for YEARS! I was recently asked if I would be interested in joining their group. One of the ladies is Baby C and B's pediatrician! How awesome it is to have a pediatrician who is a believer, friend, and doctor!

Yes life is crazy right now and yes every night of the week is already filled with busyness, but I feel like I can really learn from these ladies, not only about the Bible but about raising children, life experiences, and just prayer time with other women.

On a side note, Matt has been participating in a BICYCLE ministry on Wed nights. A guy locally has started a group who meets at his house, prepares 80+ burritos consisting of tortilla, rice, beans, and cheese, and then heads out on bikes to give out burritos and cookies to the hungry and homeless.
Matt loves to ride his bike and he loves to invest in people and he loves to meet needs of those who are hurting! Perfect ministry for him!

Thankful for VERY WILLING grandparents to keep Baby B and C on Wed nights to allow Matt and I to participate in both of our activities.

So back to the study! I HIGHLY recommend it. The author Minter is VERY down to earth and very real life and NOT hard to follow by any means! She has several studies the ladies' group have already completed, and I plan to dive into the Word using these studies in the future.

Although I was not involved with the decision of which study to do, God's timing is ALWAYS PERFECT. It has been so relative for what is transpiring in my life that it can only be the hand of Jesus.

Just as Nehemiah had a heart that could break over the destruction of the Jerusalem walls, Matt and I have a heart that breaks for those in need, especially the fatherless. Read Nehemiah 1 to see how Nehemiah mourned because he was so broken-hearted over the news he received. When is the last time you were on your knees in tears crying out to God over what God cares about?

Nehemiah had a vision to restore the city and walls of Jerusalem. In Nehemiah 2:12 he "did not tell anyone what His God had put on His heart to do for Jerusalem."

Matt and I have a vision in our hearts to begin a ministry in the near future. Just as Nehemiah waited for God's perfect timing to begin the ministry, so will we.

More details to come as we seek God's heart for this vision!

Picture day with mom

Last Thursday, our weekly visit with Baby Cs mom consisted of a photography session at Wal  Mart.  The mother arrived 30 minutes late. I was getting ansy because I was afraid we drove a good distance for the pictures to not even happen. And it was lunch time. I was hungry. Matt and I ended up eating a sandwich from Blimpie located in the wal mart while waiting on the mother.

The mother was lucky in the fact no one had an appointment immediately following ours so the photographer was able to wait on her.

Baby C took a few by herself, some with her mom, and even a few with Matt and I. (Neither one of us was prepared for pictures so they def were not keepers). Baby C did surprisingly really well!

I wish I could have bought some of the pictures. I am a little disappointed how Wal Mart does their packaging. Basically only the mom could purchase one pose for 7.99 package (quite a few diff sizes came with it) but we could not purchase a different pose for 7.99 separately.

The mother did indicate she really wanted to give us a few of what she bought. Very sweet of her.

On a side note, the mother caught Matt and I off guard last week. Despite her attempting to make us look as if we are inadequate to care for her baby, she asked if Matt and I would be willing to keep in contact and invest in Baby Cs life as she gets older. Of course, if Baby C ends up being in custody of the aunt legally then this is the aunt's decision, not the mothers. However, Baby C is our first (and not our last) foster baby. She will always hold a special place. It makes me think of Kam and how Mama Jane has continued to invest in her triplet sister's lives as well as her.

I am thankful we might have an opportunity to continue to pour into Baby C even if she is no longer in the care of our home. Making disciples, who make disciples is what it is all about! Maybe along the way we can pour into the mother the Love of Christ as well. Oh how I long for women just like her to find their hope in Christ and not the hope of worldly pleasures. But the only way she will know is if we tell and show her.

2 Month Shots and Permanency Plan change

At 8 am we went and saw our favorite pediatrician and friend, Amanda Mefford for Baby Cs two month shots. She received two in one leg, one in the other, and an oral preventative medicine for stomach virus.

She did sooooooo good! I was so proud of little bit!
She weighed 10 pounds (25% percentile) and head circumference was in 25% percentile as well
She only measured like 21 inches so her % was not very good.

Baby C is slowly improving at sleeping during the night, but she is still crying a lot when she is awake.
Her thrush has improved tremendously! Thankful to finally be getting rid of the fungal nuisance!

I am singing praises to Jesus and thankful for the healthiness of this child despite what she experienced in the womb from her mother.

At 1:00 pm Matt and I had a meeting about Baby B to change his permanency plan. Before today, Baby B's goal was to be reunited with his mother but because she has "abandoned" him for 4+ months, DCS can proceed with terminating the mother's rights. The mother was preset at the meeting today and interacted with Baby B. She is quite different than Baby Cs mother. A nice change for sure.

On paper, Baby B's goal has changed, but ultimately a judge is required to hear the case of why his goal is changing and legally put it into action. We do not have court date set as of now.

Please be in prayer for the mother of Baby B. As a YOUNG girl she is very torn on what is best for her baby. She just wants him to be well taken care of.
The mother has some ADULT decisions to make in the near future that could change Baby B's future forever. It would allow us to proceed at a much quicker rate with his adoption plan depending on her decision. She has voiced interest in going the "easier" (but not an "easier" decision for her) route to avoid a drawn out court case of possibly the inevitable.

Continue to pray for Baby B and the circumstances that surround him being in the custody of the state!
Here is a sneak peak of the great pictures my good friend Lindsay took of him at shelby farms! Cant wait till I can post the entire picture!
Love the LEFT EYEBROW RAISE!

Both Babies Trip to Smyrna TN

The last week of August, Matt met Mom, Gran, and Mamaw in Jackson to bring both babies to Smyrna.
Our family was delighted for two reasons: babies coming to visit and MS family coming to hang out and meet the precious little ones.

I unfortunately had to finish rotation through Thursday of that week so Mom and Mamaw took care of the babies during the day until I was done.
The month passed by extremely quickly.....very interesting patients at the Middle TN mental health institute. Oh how I wish I could share some stories, but that would be against HIPPA to post.

On Wed, mom and mamaw ventured out with the babies to have lunch with Bri at her new APT close to Lipscomb.

On thursday, they hung out around the house until I finished up at rotation.

On Friday we spent the day doing some shopping....yes we ventured out with both babies. I wore Baby C in my baby bjorn and we pushed Baby B around in the stroller.

We found some good deals at Belk for Baby C!

We headed on over to Hobby Lobby to buy some "surprise" craft stuff.....whole post coming soon

On Saturday afternoon, my aunt, uncle and cousin from MS came to hang out.
It was relaxing time just hanging out with the babies and spending time with family.

Sunday morning Amanda, my cousin was baptized. We are so excited for the Carr family! She is now my sister in Christ!
She had several rows of support at church! So thankful for my aunt and uncle who instill Godly truths at home and at church
We all went to O charleys (all 20+) of us to have brunch afterwards. Both babies did pretty good again!

We ate AMAZING GRILLED FOOD both Saturday and Sunday that dad had fixed
My aunt brought sweet potato pie...my first of the season! So good
Also she made Georgia sweet corn bread cake! Recipe is super easy! Cant wait to try it! Perfect for coffee dessert!
Family made a quick trip to Target and came back with Baby B and Cs first halloween outfits!
We are ready for cooler weather and end of October!

4 eggs beaten
1 cup vegetable oil
1 1/2 cups self-rising flour
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups pecans, very finely chopped
Preheat oven to 350°F degrees.Lightly grease and flour 9 by 13 baking dish. Stir together sugar, brown sugar, eggs and oil in a medium bowl until smooth. Stir in flour and vanilla. Add pecans and stir until evenly mixed.
Spoon into prepared pan and bake 30 minutes to 35 minutes.

Monday, labor day, we hung out around the house and packed up to head out.
Between the babies stuff, 2 car seats with them in it, and a month long stay at my parents out, my car was quite impressive with all that was packed into it!

Thanks to my aunt Lisa who traveled with me until Jackson, TN to help keep the babies quiet!

Loved spending time with my family at home, my dads side of the family, and bonding with Baby B and C!
Cant wait to return to Nonna and Papa bears home!

Baby B is officially in our foster care!

I am a little behind in posting, but two babies have been keeping me extremely busy and on my toes.

Baby C turned 6 weeks old Sunday of Labor Day weekend
Baby B turned 8 months old yesterday!

Today (Sept 7th 2012) marks a BIG day in Baby Bs world. We had a child and family team meeting (finally) to transfer Brayden officially from the Gaskin's foster home to ours.

It was a rather uneventful meeting especially considering the birth mother and gmother decided to show up. No one was expecting the birth mother because she has not been locatable for months; therefore implying she has no desire to see Baby B either.

The mother had no objections to the transition, which is a huge blessing!
She could have caused a huge ordeal.
She held Baby B, kissed on him, let him play with her two phones (not sure why she is not locatable with two phones), and got to see his awesome smile!
The gmother arrived with 5 minutes remaining so they brought her up to speed and she had no objections either.

We have set a tentative date to discuss his future placement goals Sept 18th.This meeting will mainly be held to discuss "legal matters" in regards to Baby B's future.

We would be delighted to call him a Nason. We already love him as if he is one!

Baby Cs visits with her mother

The mother of baby C has the right to have visitation with her baby.
Visitation can include anything from doctors visits, court dates, meeting Thursday afternoon for an hr or two,  etc.

Prior to this week, Baby Cs mother has only seen her at MD visits or court.
Yesterday Matt and I spent two solid hours with her mother.
I was an emotional mess after wards. My emotions mainly stemmed from anger.
God is testing me, and I am ok with that. I want to love her like Christ loves her.
The mother is manipulative, conniving, and on a mission to make Matt and I look like we cant take care of a baby. I have accepted the mother made bad decisions while she was expecting, but its hard to love someone who you feel is out to get you.
She has made comments every time matt has seen her about the baby not having socks on. Really? If you care about her so much, why did you do drugs while you were pregnant with her? I would never say this, but this is exactly what I was thinking which is just as bad.
She was mad I am not currently adding rice cereal in her bottle. The baby is 6 weeks old (almost 7). She does not need rice cereal in her bottle yet.
Although Matt and I have not broken any rules in the foster care world, she was highly upset her baby was in Nashville the last week of August and she was unable to have her visit on Thursday.
She also thought it was very unprofessional she had not met me yet and only seen Matt. And my response to that is Nashville or not, I have clinical rotations (aka full time job) that does not allow me to be at court and meetings held during normal business hours. That is just reality when you actually are working, which she is not familiar with.

In the two hours, the mother displayed many emotions from sadness (almost in tears), anger, hostility, friendly, outbursts, attention seeking, etc
Matt had warned me, but I was quite overwhelmed after leaving. I wouldnt even begin to sum up Baby Cs mother in one post. And after meeting her, she really is just one of those people you have to have interactions with to fully see the entire picture.

She is truly in need of a Savior. Please pray!

Baby Cs 1st Court date on 8/24 =non existent

Matt would be a much better historian because he was present, but I will give the quick facts.

Court typically starts at 9am for everyone; therefore you never know what time the case will be called in to see the judge. You show up and wait.
Well 1st court the entire crew had to wait extra long.....
Apparently Baby Cs case wasnt on the dockett (Sp?) for the judge to see that day. They waited around hoping to see the judge, but Baby Cs attorney requested a continuance.

So as of now the next official court date is not until January 2013.
They are in the process of getting this court date moved closer. This is an important court date because this is when the judge will hear why Baby C is in states custody to begin with.

More on court in future posts when it actually does happen.
