In the end, we still have two babies to love on

Before getting into the details, I just want to say thank you for your prayers. I went from not sleeping, extremely anxious and worried, to a peace beyond understanding by Friday. God is teaching me patience and what it means to truly trust He is in control. Matt and I are firm believers we are the voice for the voiceless but ultimately it is not our decision what happens to these sweet babies. We know God already knows their futures and we trust He knows what is best for them.
With that being said, we hope God's glory is evident throughout this process and the way in which we choose to respond to the outcomes.

Thanks Braswells! Baby B even got to partake in some! :)
Friday January 18th Matt and I woke up early, got two babies all spiffed up, and drove downtown for our morning at Juvenile court.
Thanks to our friends, who are doing life with us, for bringing homemade cinnamon rolls at 7:30 am to get the day started off right.

When we arrived to court, the attorney for Baby C's mother quickly informed us her mother would not be showing up. He indicted she was hospitalized at the med under an alias name. We were skeptical on truth of this. Baby C's aunt, who she has visits with, was present and quite disturbed by the news as well. She tried to call Baby C's mother that morning but no answer.
Needless to say nothing transpired and the court date was moved to the end of May. Baby C will be 10 months old at this point and the judge is yet to hear why Baby C is in state's custody to begin with.

Of note Baby B and C both have the same attorney and he had not shown up at this point.

Then we waited for Baby B's turn. We were called in before the judge at one point but B's attorney was still not present so they skipped us while we waited for him to arrive.

In the meantime, Baby B's mother and grandmother were interacting with B but he didn't want much part of it. The grandmother of Baby B is very young (32?) and has 9 kids of her own. All of her kids were present because they have been removed from her home by the state and in foster care as well.

As I am writing this at 3 am, I can't sleep. My mind keeps replaying what transpired inside the court room. Could I have said more? Did I say the right thing? Why is B's case worker incompetent? Why was Bs attorney not fully on board with the change? Why does he have authority to make "final comments" when he never visits with B or communicates with Matt or I? Why is mother's attorney finding loop holes to drag this out even longer? Although VERY evident the mother has not pursued getting life in order outlined in the permanency plan, the judge was not convinced it was time to change the goal to soley adoption.
It was the first time I heard B's mother say more than a few words. She went irate in the court room: very dramatic and emotional. She started talking about herself and most of it had zero relevance to wanting her baby back. Apparently there is discrepancy on how or why B was placed in state's care in first place. She went on and on about how she's almost 19 and doesn't need to finish high school and how she has called DCS off and on about B and how she doesn't have transportation (although was supposedly given bus tickets), etc. I don't even know what all she was going on about. She also mentioned it was B's case workers fault of why her baby's daddy wasn't showing up (30 year old man) because he told him it would do no good.

Ultimately the judge decided not to change the permanency plan to adoption at this time. There is a court date in April for the mother in attempt to iron out all of the issues of why he came into care and child support charges etc. That has no relevance to us. Apparently the mother had court the day prior. We were not aware of this. I believe the April date if an appeal to Thursday's court date
I'm concerned that whatever was said or presented the day before weighed into the judge's decision. There is still a lot of unknowns in the case.

Because the mother was so worked up, they had a deputy escort Matt, myself, and the babies out to our car.

Transitioning back to Baby C's mother: I received a call from the aunt around 10:45am. She had called her brother (C's supposed daddy) and found out from him that C's mom was not at the hospital and she was actually with him. C's mom refused to talk to the aunt.
The aunt was calling to tell me the truth and also to say she is done trying to bend over backwards, take off work, help someone who doesn't want help, put her own health at stake, etc. She told me she loved c and it is her niece but she just can't be in the middle of the mess.
I thanked her for her honesty because she didn't have to inform me of this and for being willing to tell the truth of why C's mother did not show up for court.
She was very respectful and very honest about not being able to do it anymore.

Matt and I don't know what this means at this point. The aunt was our avenue to get out of arranging weekly visits with the mother. I don't think the mother deserves weekly visits.
She's not getting out pt treatment. She's been discharged twice from the same place.
She is suppose to have weekly drug screens. The most recent is from sept and it was pos for several drugs.
She is still living with cs father and lied about moving into apartment for battered women.
She doesn't take her meds on a regular basis
She doesn't have stable income
I could probably go on and on but the intent is not to bash Cs mother. It would just be nice to have some closure

I had to go into rotation for the rest of the afternoon, but I was pretty much useless.
Matt got some baby time at home. I am so proud of him and how AWESOME he is caring and loving the babies. I am sure I have his excellent father to thank for that one. He was a great role model.

Matt sent me a text late afternoon informing me B was running a fever of 101 but he seemed to be doing better after Tylenol and a nap.
I went for a short run and then fixed dinner.
The stiglers came over for a lil bit to talk about life over brownies. I am thankful for their friendship and how they have walked this road with us from day one of bringing Baby C home.

Looking forward to a calm weekend. I had a nice surprise and was given Monday off for MLK day and I plan to enjoy some baby time.

On a side note, we were able to talk with Madison Thursday night and it made my evening! She seems to be doing better. She would not give me many details over the phone, but I am hoping she is headed down a better direction. It will be February before we see her again. :(

WHOLE MILK AND TABLE FOOD

Last week on the 10th, Baby B had his 1 year old health dept visit. My poor lil guy got SIX SHOTS! I was at rotation so Matt had to take him. Matt said he was a trooper. Cried for a second after each one but then was completely content. Not only did he get his one year old physical, and shots, but he had a nutritional consult. Needless to say, he was there for awhile.

No more vouchers for baby food and formula. We now have to purchase whole milk, eggs, vegetables, fruits, juice, real cereal, etc.
I kind of freaked out. It's been one of the first times I've felt like a "mom." I was sad over him transitioning to whole milk because that means he is growing up. Sigh.

I have been extremely weirded out by people referring to me as a mom or a mother. I understand and fully realize this is the role I have taken on to both B and C; however, I by no means feel as if I have gained the title of "mom" over night (or over the course of 5 months). When B says, "mama," it warms my heart and is pure bliss but when others refer to me as a mom, I kind of cringe on the inside.
But this past week, I have felt every emotion of a true mother as Friday's court date approaches. A sense of entitlement over my babies (totally unbiblical because we own nothing; God owns everything), fear of the unknown/change, unconditional love, pain at the very thought of B and C going anywhere other than our home, anxiety over what lies ahead of us, worry for their futures, etc

I digress.
So the whole point of this entry was to document B transitioning to whole milk. I asked around....even at Le bonheur. Appartently there is no general consensus on the best way to transition, but most pediatricians will recommend titrating up by mixing. Jane attempted to give him straight whole milk but he was not interested so I decided to go with the slow transition.
We gave him 50% whole milk and 50% formula. It was quite funny at his reactions. He could tell it tasted differently. It took about an hour for the first bottle because he kept leaving and coming back to it. The next day, he did great with it.
Another issue with whole milk bottles.....now I have to keep the milk cold everywhere we go. Oh the easiness of formula. I have been spoiled.

He probably could transition to complete table food at this point, but I like the convenience of baby food for now. I will probably continue to do baby food and real food until he totally refuses to eat baby foor or we run out; whichever comes first. :)

On another note, Baby C is doing FABULOUS! She is growing and smiling and really starting to show attachments.
We have fed her cereal several times now. She doesnt love it but she manages to get it down. Trying to work on the whole utensil concept.

I will be updating after Friday's court hearings on both of them. The day could be filled with joyous emotions, sad emotions, bittersweet emotions, or a combination of all of the above.
Pray for Matt and I, pray for the babies, pray for the biological families, pray for the judge's/attorney's widsom/discernment on best outcome for the babies, pray God's will is done, and matt/I have peace beyond understanding despite the outcome, pray God's glory is seen through all of this. Just pray.

On Saturday, a very hungry baby b ate through one piece of cake

Our baby b turned one on Sunday so we celebrated in style on Saturday with a very hungry caterpillar birthday party.

Thanks to my best friend Lindsay and her cousin, I had the most precious invitations for his first birthday. They did all the hard work. All I did was glue, cut, and write.

I worked hard over Christmas break buying what i could and crafting So that I wouldn't be stressed the night before.

In all honesty, I am not very creative. It was my idea to do hungry caterpillar because Eric Carl was my favorite children's author growing up. When I googled And pinterested the idea, it was EVERYWHERE so I ran with it.

I had all these great ideas in my head but was not sure they would all come to fruition.

I returned to rotation Friday prior to party and so after rotation, I made quick trips to wal mat and Aldis to get last minute food. I did all my baking Friday night so sat would only consist of presentation and cutting fruit.

My family came in Friday night (including my grandparents) so we just hung out and enjoyed playing with the babies.

Saturday morning I work up early, thanks to lil bit, and started muffins for breakfast.

Dad made a quick trip to store to finish the caterpillar head masterpiece. He did a phenomenal job icing the cake!!

We headed over to Janes around 11:30 to start decorating and preparing food. My helpers had to have energy so we got pizza for lunch and then we were at it.

Linds showed up early so I put her to work decorating and food preparing.

I will just let the decorations speak for itself via pictures.

We had a great turn out, and I was so excited about how many friends and family came to support baby b turning one.

B didn't let us down in the cake department. He had it EVERYWHERE, hair included. I think it's safe to say he enjoyed it.

Even though Christmas was a few weeks before, he didn't get shafted in the present department.
He got a mini computer from nonna and papa bear, moose pillow pet from aunt bri, tom shoes from Arnold's, basketball goal from lolli and pop, wagon from His favorite kk and daddy Wayne, clothes from gran, etc.

We celebrated his actual birthday with lunch with lolli and pop. He was quite excited about his "dessert" sweet potatoes. There was nothing healthy about that yummy goodness Ha

We ended the evening at mercy hill and shared his extra cupcakes with our friends
At church.

Although B won't remember his first birthday, Matt and I are so thankful for everyone who made the weekend so special for him. It saddens me to even think what his day may have been like if he was not surrounded by friends and family who love him.

Madison's holiday break winds down

It was delightful to wake up the day after Christmas to a BEAUTIFUL WHITE SNOW!!

We spent the morning picking up around the house due to the tornado of stuff from Christmas. We hadnt had time to unpack from my parents house, let alone find a proper place for all the gifts we had received.

Around 11 am, we bundled the babies up and took them out for their first snow. We met lolli with Kam at shelby farms to do some sledding.
B wasnt thrilled about sledding but he didnt cry either!
Madison was scared but she enjoyed herself!

We went back to our house to warm up and take naps before we took Madison to see Parental Guidance followed by dinner at Chilis.
The movie was super cute, clean, and funny! The Nason crew saw it the day before but we were on the road from Nashville.
Thanks to lolli and pop for watching the babies for us!

The 27th was quite depressing around my house:
Babies were fussy,,,have no idea how we get anything done with two babies under one around the house....
Christmas decorations came down
Serious cleaning/organizing was started
Madison slept in until 11 am and then spent the afternoon packing up her room to head back to Childrens home
Baby room needed serious work

We took Madison to Mcdonalds for lunch to use a giftcard and then around 4 we had to take her back to her "home."
The ride there was quite sad and depressing. Madison cried a few tears when we arrived. I hated having to take her back, but for now, this is where God has her.
Please pray for her...we have received word that.she has not adjusted well to being back there. We plan to call and get more details soon. We really want to talk to her and see what's going on but we are waiting for the right time.

Nason Christmas

Christmas night Matts family gathered at his mom's house to enjoy a great dinner and family time.

See Amandas post from the evening:
Nason Christmas

The babies slept a good deal of the time but B woke up just in time to open a few gifts. This year B was more interested in wrapping paper, tissue, and boxes, but next year he is going to love it!!
Lolli bought B some cowboy boots and he is styling in them!!
B is so much fun and so cute how he walks. He looks like a lil old man waddeling.

The big gift for the babies from lolli and pop is a family zoo membership!
Can't wait until the weather warms up to take them in the spring.

Uncle Al's gift, a guitar, was probably his favorite because b loves music and enjoys trying to sing along.

Friday night we met back at Janes house to celebrate Christmas with Matt's dads side of the family.
We all brought appetizers and enjoyed spending time with family we don't see often enough.
The babies got some great gifts this night as well: cool bibs, book set, puppy stuffed animal, and baby tambourine.

It was such a blessing to Matt and I to see all of the family love on the babies, even down to our neices and nephew wanting to hold them.

Matt and I can never say enough times how much we appreciate support and encouragement from family.

Parrish/Carr Christmas

We headed to Nashville the Friday before Christmas to spend the weekend with my family.

Mom had a big pot of chili waiting on us when we arrived. We ate dinner, tucked the babies in bed, and cuddled up to watch a movie with our sweet SS, aka Madison.

Saturday morning started with a quick run followed by HOURS OF BAKING. It was fun for the entire family. So many different variety of cookies were made and decorated and of course consumed!
We made most of them to package up for my family's neigbors, but we enjoyed a few along the way.
Matt can eat his weight in snicker doodle cookies I believe.

Saturday night we relaxed at my parents house and got take out dinner because we were worn out from baking all day.

Sunday morning we went to church as an entire family. It was a sweet sight to see Madison worshipping but emotional over her current situation.

Thanks to my parents watching the babies, we were able to take Madison to lunch at SATCO to eat her heart out in tacos and then on to her first experience with ice skating.
She did fabulous. Picked it up like a champ with lil pointers or direction. She was worn out fairly quickly though.
She had one major fall an hour after we were there because Matt and I made her laugh and lose her concentration. Wish I had caught it on camera.

Monday was Christmas eve, which also started out with a quick run. We relaxed around the house until Christmas at grands at lunch time.
As usual, there was a huge spread of food that was super yummy!Baby B got to experience most of the big ppl food!
My cousins read the Christmas story and then it was time to open gifts.
None of us need anything but my mom and grandmother have a gift of giving and love finding the perfect gifts for friends and family.
The babies were spoiled but Matt and I are extremely thankful for the many practical gifts (diapers, wipes, clothes) and also the noisy making toys!

Brianna and Madison made a quick trip to Waffle house as a christmas eve tradition.

Christmas day started with a yummy Breakfast cooked by my parents. Dad has a special tradition of making chocolate gravy for biscuits every Christmas. I really like it!!
Baby B got to try some as well!

After awaking the sleepy heads, Madison and Brianna, it was time to open gifts from each other. Mom shared a few words about the wise men and how they presented gifts to the King which was followed by mom presenting gifts to each of us.

It was such a sweet time with family and we loved having Madison there for every part. Thanks friends and family for making her feel a part of the family.

My impressive hubby loaded EVERYTHING (luggage, presents for 5, etc) into the car for the trip home to Memphis. He def could not see out the back!

I hated being on the road Christmas day but It was worth it to beable to celebrate Christmas with both sides of the family the day of Christmas.

Next up, Nason Family Christmas
